Artist Statement

I see myself first and foremost as an educator of the visual arts and my art production is completely secondary yet necessary as an art educator.  As an educator, I believe in engaging students in their quest for knowledge within their everyday real life experiences, along with their responses and reflections on their own personal experiences.  Teaching through art as experience provides an avenue in which particular real life issues are revealed and eventually explored to the effect of how these issues relate to us.  The perspectives in which I believe these issues should be discovered are the following, through holistic worldviews, societal and cultural worldviews, and most importantly individualistic worldviews.  By teaching and producing art as experience and doing so under the perspectives listed above, I find my teaching and personal artwork to be most successful and effective.
